Frequently Asked Questions

If you have additional questions or need assistance, please contact us at dsps@butte.edu or 530-895-2455 for additional assistance.

Disability Verification is any documentation that has the following information:

  • Your information (i.e. full legal name, birthday, etc.)
  • Disability type (i.e. diagnosis)
  • Your provider’s information (i.e. full name, license number, business location, etc.)

The DSPS office can provide a Disability Verification Form that you can bring to your provider, if you do not have any documentation yet.

DSPS also facilitates a records request to obtain your disability verification from your provider.

You can mail, email, fax, or bring your disability verification in person at the DSPS office (Butte College Main Campus - SAS 238).

After verifying your document, a DSPS staff will assist you in scheduling your first intake appointment with a Disabilities Specialist.

Please contact DSPS at 530-895-2455 or dsps@butte.edu for more information.

Students who complete the application process by submitting disability verification will be contacted by DSPS to schedule an intake appointment. Students should plan for this appointment to take approximately 1 hour and can choose between an online Zoom or an in person appointment.

In this appointment, the Disabilities Specialist will conduct an interview to determine what academic accommodations are needed for the student based on their disability and the students' functional limitations.

Before leaving, students will have an understanding what their accommodations are, how to use alternative media, be assisted with signing their e-form agreements, and/or request accommodations for current or upcoming classes.

Once you have requested accommodations in the AIM Portal, your instructor will receive a Faculty Notification Letter in their Butte College email that tells them what accommodations you have requested for that class.

You must first log into AIM and request Exam Accommodations as part of your accommodation requests (for additional help, follow our "How To Request Accomodations" guide).

Then, have a talk with your instructor to let them know you plan to take your tests in the DSPS office. They will complete the Alternative Testing Agreement and submit it to our office. Then you can make an exam reservation in the AIM portal to take your exam in the DSPS office (for additional help, follow our "How To Schedule an Exam Reservation" guide).

You are required to talk to your instructor to tell them where you want to take your tests within five (5) days of submitting your accommodation request(s). The instructor cannot complete the Alternative Testing Agreement without talking to you first.

When the Faculty Notification Letter is sent to your instructor, it includes a link to the Alternative Testing Agreement that they need to fill out and submit to the DSPS office that tells us all about the tests.

Contact the staff in the DSPS office by phone at 530-895-2455, email at dsps@butte.edu, or stop by the office to let us know you are having trouble logging in.

Be sure to include your name and student ID number in the email.

Yes, all active DSPS students qualify for priority registration as part of their accommodations.

To ensure you maintain your active status you must sign your e-form agreements and request accommodations each semester.

Job postings are located on Handshake each semester as positions become available. A completed copy of the HR application and availability forms can be submitted to the DSPS office via email (at dsps@butte.edu).

Contact the DSPS staff at 530-895-2455 if you have any questions about the application or interview process.
