Our Mission

We are dedicated to the people, traditions and diversity of our college. In order to protect life and property, prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime, we will provide service with understanding, respond with compassion, perform with integrity and enforce the law with integrity and with vision.

  • Our officers have full peace officer authority (Penal Code 830.32; Ed Code 72330) and are trained to respond to all emergencies on campus, including our Chico and Skyway Center campuses.
  • In Glenn County, local law enforcement responds to incidents at the Glenn County Center.
  • You can reach College Police 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for support, guidance, or emergency response.

Crime Prevention

Your actions play a vital role in keeping the campus safe. Here are a few best practices.

Do:

  • Report suspicious behavior or crimes immediately.
  • Keep personal belongings secure and marked with your student ID.
  • Lock up valuables and stay aware of your surroundings.

Don’t:

  • Walk alone at night if you can avoid it.
  • Leave items unattended — even briefly.
  • Share personal contact information with strangers.

If you experience or witness an emergency or a crime in progress:

  • Call 911 immediately. 
  • Use any red campus emergency phone — open the box and press the button. 
  • Contact the Butte College Police Department at 530-895-2351 or dial 2677 (COPS) from any campus phone.

Lost and Found

We hold found items for 90 calendar days. Items not accepted due to health/safety concerns include:

  • Food
  • Drinks
  • Used clothing
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Items considered trash or unsanitary

To check on a lost item, call us at 530-895-2351.

Vehicle Assistance

College Police may be able to help if you:

  • Are locked out of your vehicle
  • Need a jump start

A waiver and proof of ownership are required for assistance.

Parking Citations

If you wish to contest a parking citation issued on our campus, submit a written request within 21 days of the date your citation was issued to the City of Chico, P.O. Box 3449, Chico, California 95927-3449.

  • Indicate the reason(s) you feel the citation was issued in error.
  • Include any copies of documents related to the appeal.
  • The City of Chico will review the appeal and respond directly to you.
