Roadrunner Hub

The Roadrunner Hub Basic Needs Resource Center (Hub) is a network of people and programs that offer students food, housing resources, and other services to support student basic needs and reduce barriers. Additionally, the Hub aims to connect students to community resources to ensure they have a sustainable source of support during their time at Butte College and beyond. 

Food Services

Roadrunner Food Pantry

The Roadrunner Food Pantry is a donation-based pantry that allows students to grocery shop on campus for perishable and non-perishable food items. We now have a refrigerator and freezer, allowing us to provide not just shelf-stable food, but fresh and frozen produce and dairy.

CalFresh Application Assistance

CalFresh is FREE money to help you buy groceries. With CalFresh, you can get up to $298 per month, for a single household, to buy food to help promote your success, in and out of the classroom. The Roadrunner Hub is here to assist with the application process and with any benefit questions.

Medi-Cal Application Assistance

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program that allows eligible individuals and/or families to access medical care at little to no cost. Butte County representatives visit the Hub once a month to assist with the application process or answer any questions.

Housing Services

Roadrunner House

The Roadrunner House is a partnership between the Butte College Roadrunner Hub and Chico Housing Action Team that provides housing for students who are currently without housing. Through this partnership, students will be provided a safe and supportive environment to be able to get back on their feet and transition to permanent housing.

Housing Grants

Students experiencing housing insecurity may be eligible to apply for temporary rent relief through our Homeless and Housing Insecurity Pilot Grant. Additionally, students who are unhoused or have become unhoused may qualify for other financial assistance through this same grant. To check for eligibility, please complete the basic needs assessment form under "Access Services". 

Locker and Shower Access

Students can access the showers in the campus gymnasium during the designated hours of operation. If you are currently without housing, the Roadrunner Hub can also rent you a lock locker for the semester to use at your own discretion and provide you with hygiene products like shampoo and body wash.

Other Services

Student Parent Resources

Our Child Development Center provides a number of childcare services. The Roadrunner Pantry also offers childcare supplies (when available) such as diapers, baby formula, and breast pumps.

Transportation Assistance

The Roadrunner Hub can provide students experiencing transportation challenges with emergency support. Students needing public transportation through the B-Line can also request passes through the Roadrunner Hub.

PG&E Discount Rates 

Discounted PG&E Rates:  CARE and FERA are PG&E discount program that help eligible customers pay energy bills.   

California Alternate Rates for Energy Program (CARE). A monthly discount of 20% or more on gas and electricity.      Participants qualify through income guidelines or if enrolled in certain public assistance programs. 

Family Electric Rate Assistance Program (FERA). A monthly discount of 18% on electricity only. Must be a household    with three or more people. Participants qualify through income guidelines.

Phone Services

Free Phones: The California LifeLine Program (California LifeLine) is a state program that provides discounted home phone and cell phone services to eligible households. The California LifeLine discounts help consumers lower the cost of their phone bills.

Technology Access

California Connect provides low-cost internet access. The service includes a mobile hotspot that lets you stay connected to the internet in school, at home, and on the go.

CollegeBuys (by the Foundation for California Community Colleges) provides a range of technology products at reduced prices.

CalFresh is FREE money to help you buy groceries. CalFresh benefits are loaded onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) debit card each month and can be spent in-person at most grocery stores and farmers’ markets or through online grocery purchasing. With CalFresh, you can get up to $291 per month for a single household to buy food to help promote your success, in and out of the classroom.

Eligible students can also apply for a temporary rent relief grant through our Homeless and Housing Insecurity Pilot Grant. This grant can provide up to 1 month of emergency funds for students who are currently housed, but are currently: 

  • In receipt of a 3-day pay or quit notice or verification that residence is not safe/habitable environment 
  • In receipt of a judgment for eviction as ordered by court 
  • Lost employment within the last 30 days (must be actively looking for employment)
