Participatory Governance and Committees

Butte College's approach to governance and decision-making is based on a partnership among board members, faculty, staff, administration, and students. These constituent groups are united by a collective, shared vision that student success is the goal of everyone’s work at the college.

The Purpose of Participatory Governance is to:

  • Provide the process for shared development of policies and regulations.
  • Provide the means through which all members of the academic community – students, faculty, administration, and staff – can participate effectively in the orderly growth and development of the College.
  • Provide the coordination of the College-wide standing committees, academic standing committees, and task forces.

Board of Trustees

The Butte-Glenn Community College District is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of seven publicly elected officials and one student elected by the student body.

Superintendent/President

Guided by the Board of Trustees and in adherence to all policies, procedures, regulations, and laws, the President is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and strategic planning for the District.

College Council

College Council provides a centralized mechanism for ensuring that decision-making processes at Bute College are characterized by integrity, equity, and effectiveness. The committee also ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory guidelines and actively facilitates shared governance by involving all constituency groups.
