Student Conduct and Rights

Students at Butte College are afforded certain rights and privileges, in addition to the freedom to learn. These privileges carry with them an obligation to respect the rights and privileges of others, as well as an obligation to abide by rules set by the College. Our goal is to develop a community that supports the success of our students inside and outside of the classroom.

Student Conduct

The Office of the Dean of Students addresses student conduct matters with a focus on fairness, learning, and community responsibility. When concerns arise, the process is designed to support students while upholding the college’s standards and expectations.

AP 5500, Standards of Student Conduct

At Butte College, students have a responsibility to participate in a safe and respectful learning environment. These expectations are outlined in the Standards of Student Conduct.

The purpose of AP  5500 is to outline conduct that shall constitute good cause for discipline.

AP 5520, Student Discipline Procedures

Disciplining students for violations of the Standards of Student Conduct is a means of protecting the rights and privileges of each member of the campus community and college property. However, it is the right of every student to request due process.

The purpose of AP 5520 is to provide prompt an equitable means to address conduct violations.

Classroom Environment

Respectful classroom engagement and academic integrity are essential to a positive learning environment. These Administrative Procedures (AP) and resources are intended to help students understand their responsibilities and the options available to support fair and respectful resolution of concerns.

Faculty have the authority to issue consequences at the course level or refer the matter to the Dean of Students for further disciplinary action.
