Assistant Superintendent/Vice President for Instruction
At Butte College, academic excellence and innovation drive our mission — and under the leadership of Vice President Erik Shearer, our instructional division is committed to providing high-quality programs that prepare students for transfer, career advancement, and lifelong learning.
Meet Vice President Erik Shearer
As vice president for instruction, Erik Shearer provides leadership for the academic mission of our college. With more than two decades of service in the California Community College system, Shearer brings a deep commitment to access, student success, and the transformative power of education. He oversees a wide range of instructional areas that touch nearly every student experience—from career and technical education to the liberal arts, sciences, and workforce development. He also oversees instructional research, curriculum and scheduling, and faculty development to ensure the college’s academic programs remain innovative, relevant, and student-centered.
Shearer’s role extends beyond the classroom, encompassing partnerships with local industries and communities through economic and workforce development, contract education, and the Small Business Development Center. By guiding these interconnected areas, Shearer helps ensure that students—from high school students to working adults—have clear pathways to reach their educational and career goals.
My goal is to continue building upon the college's remarkable reputation for excellence and fostering even stronger relationships with the diverse communities we are privileged to serve.
