Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Students using VA education benefits must submit a Certification Request Form each semester after registering for classes. Your benefits cannot be certified until the form is received.
Once your enrollment has been certified, Enrollment Manager will send a confirmation email to the address on file with the VA. Be sure to also check your student email regularly for updates from our office.
Monthly Enrollment Verification is a requirement for students using certain VA education benefits. Each month, the VA will ask you to confirm that you are still enrolled in your classes. Verification can be completed online, by text message, email, through Ask VA, or by phone.
Failure to verify your enrollment may delay your VA payments.
Benefits that require monthly verification may include:
- Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33)
- Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (Chapter 30)
- Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606)
- Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)
VA payments are issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs, not Butte College. Payment timing may vary depending on when your enrollment was certified and VA processing times. If you have questions about your payment status, contact Veterans Services for assistance.
Changes to your schedule may affect your VA benefits, Monthly Housing, or create an overpayment with the VA. Contact Veterans Services before making schedule changes whenever possible so we can explain how your benefits may be affected.

This includes all education and training received before, during, and after Military Service, even if VA benefits were not paid during the course or program.

To be considered for credit for military training, a student must complete a minimum of 12 units with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or above at Butte College. The student must request official joint transcripts to be sent to the Butte College Office of Veterans Services and submit a Request for Military Training Evaluation to the Office of Veterans Services.
