Make a counseling appointment to receive general academic guidance, get assistance with academic issues, or plan for graduation or transfer.

Two Types of Appointments

There are multiple counseling options depending on your student status and program participation. Within each option, there are generally two types of appointment that you can make: 

  • OPEN Appointment: These become available exactly one week in advance and remain open until all appointments for the week are filled.
  • Same-Day Appointment: These are released at 8 AM from Monday to Thursday and remain available until all slots for the day are filled.

Appointment Duration

Three appointment lengths are offered:

  • 10-minute drop-ins for quick questions like adding/dropping classes or finding open sections.
  • 30-minute appointments for short-term planning like certificate programs or single-semester Ed Plans.
  • 1-hour appointments for more complex needs like academic probation, transfer planning, or multi-semester Ed Plans.

Get quick, 10-minute counseling sessions with our Express Counseling service, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sessions are open to current, new, and returning students (who have submitted applications at least 24 hours in advance)

Counselors can help you find the right level of classes and assist you in designing a short- or long-term educational plan. Continuing and returning students can receive assistance with academic issues, plan for graduation or transfer, and receive general academic guidance.

The Transfer Counseling Center (TCC) provides counseling and transitional services to all students wishing to attend a four-year college or university.

Emphasis is placed on making Butte students the highest priority for admission by focusing services and programs on major selection and four-year university specific requirements.The Transfer Counseling Office is located at Butte College, Main Campus, Student Administrative Services, Room 110 (SAS 110).

Transfer Counseling is for students looking to transfer out of Butte College to a 4-year college or university. Appointments become available exactly one week in advance at midnight and remain open until all appointments for the week are filled.

Athletics Counseling provides assistance for new, continuing and returning student athletes in various areas, including educational planning, academic issues, plan for graduation or transfer, and provide general academic guidance.

Rising Scholars is a resource for formerly incarcerated and system impacted students (those who have experienced the effects of incarceration).

Allies of restorative justice and prisoner advocacy are encouraged to join. In addition, Rising Scholars have a dedicated counselor.

The MESA Program is dedicated to providing the resources and environment for Butte College students to succeed and transfer to four-year colleges in STEM-based majors.

The Inspiring Scholars Program at Butte College supports students who have experienced foster care after age 13 and are under 26.
