EOPS

Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) helps students overcome barriers and thrive in college. We provide above‑and‑beyond support so students stay on track, feel confident, and reach their academic, career, and personal goals. Our services are designed to give students individualized attention and support their enrollment, retention, completion, and transfer goals.

Counseling

As an EOPS student, you will be assigned an EOPS counselor to help guide you and answer your questions as you pursue your college career. EOPS students are required to meet with their counselor three times each semester.

One on One Tutoring

The EOPS POWER Center provides free, one-on-one, appointment - based tutoring in a wide array of subjects. A more intensive tutoring program for selected math classes is also available.

Eligible EOPS students receive a $400 book credit each semester to help with the cost of textbooks.  EOPS also offers calculator, laptop, and Wi-Fi hotspot loans on a first come, first serve basis.  Equipment may be borrowed for the duration of the semester.

Summer Bridge

First-time college students who qualify for EOPS are invited to attend our Summer Bridge program. Summer Bridge is a week-long program where students will engage in activities and workshops that promote academic success, and student involvement. All participants will receive free breakfast and lunch each day along with school supplies and materials to help them succeed at Butte College.

CARE Program

CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) is a program offered through EOPS. The primary goal of CARE is to provide single parents receiving CalWORKS or TANF cash aid (for themselves or their children) additional support and services to attend college and obtain a degree and/or marketable job skill.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for EOPS if you:

  • Are a California resident or AB 540 student (residency is determined by the Butte College Admissions and Records Office);
  • Are enrolled in 12 or more units (limited space is available for students in 9-11.75 units);
  • Have completed less than 70 degree applicable units;
  • Meet the income requirements for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG) A, B, or C and have an EFC or SAI of $0 to $1500. Click here for the CCPG Income Standards. 

And You Meet One of the Following Educational Factors:

  • You did not graduate from high school (General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) and High School Proficiency are considered high school graduation);
  • You graduated from high school with less than a 2.5 GPA (unofficial high school transcript must be provided to the Butte College EOPS Office);
  • You are a first-generation college student (neither of your biological or adoptive parents were awarded a Bachelor’s Degree);
  • Your parents are not native English speakers;
  • You are a member of an underrepresented group as defined in the Butte College Student Equity Plan. 

After you have reviewed the EOPS eligibility criteria, you are ready to take the steps required to apply to, and receive benefits from, the EOPS Program.

Complete the Butte College Enrollment Steps

Complete the following before applying to EOPS:
  1. Apply to Butte College.
  2. Complete or renew your financial aid application (FAFSA, California Dream Act Application, or California College Promise Grant).
  3. Submit to Admissions & Records official transcripts for any college coursework taken outside of Butte College.
  4. Enroll in at least 9 units (wait-listed classes do not count toward this requirement).

Complete the EOPS Application

  • If you are enrolled in 12 or more units, complete our online application. The last page of the application will indicate whether you are eligible for EOPS.
  • If you are enrolled in 9 - 11.75 units, please download and complete the PDF application.  Once complete, please email it to eops@butte.edu

After you are determined to be eligible for EOPS

  • Schedule an EOPS orientation through the EOPS Office at 530-895-2555. Only eligible students will be admitted to the EOPS Orientation.
  • Once you complete the EOPS orientation and sign the Mutual Responsibility Contract (MRC), set up your first EOPS counseling appointment.
  • If you are a disabled student in less than 9 units, you will need to provide EOPS with an accommodation letter from DSPS. (This letter must be provided each semester.)

EOPS services will begin after you have attended your first EOPS counseling appointment.

There are student responsibilities designed to help you succeed and to track your success while in the program.  Maintain these responsibilities you will receive EOPS benefits. 

  • Complete at least 9 units each semester with a minimum 2.0 semester GPA. DSPS Students are eligible for unit and completion exemptions. 
  • Follow your Student Educational Plan (SEP) when scheduling classes and maintain academic progress toward the educational goal (certificate, associate degree, or transfer) defined in your SEP.
  • Meet with your assigned EOPS counselor at least three (3) times each semester, and advise the EOPS Office in a timely manner if you cannot keep your scheduled appointment.
  • Complete the financial aid application annually and continue to meet our income eligibility.
  • Complete the EOPS End-of-Term Survey. 

 

EOPS offers the following items for student use on a first-come, first-served basis.  All items are loaned for one semester at a time and must be returned by the last day of the semester. 

  • Scientific and Grasping Calculators - Contact the EOPS front desk to reserve a scientific or graphing calculator.  Check-out begins the week before the semester begins.  They must be returned the last day of the semester.  
  • Laptops - A limited number of laptops are available each semester. Students will receive a loan request link by email at their Butte College email address one week before the semester beings. 
  • Wifi Hotspots. - A limited number of wifi hotspots are available each semester. Students will receive a loan request link by email at their Butte College email address one week before the semester beings. 
  • Book Lending Library - Contact the EOPS front desk to reserve a book from our book lending library. Check-out begins the week before the semester begins.  They must be returned by the last day of the semester.
