A new student is someone attending Butte College for the first time or has taken classes here while in high school and has since graduated. Follow the steps to apply today.

You must meet one of the following requirements:  

  • Attending Butte College for the first time.
  • Taken courses at Butte College while in high school and have since graduated.

Applying is Simple and Free!

You will apply to Butte through CCC Apply. After you complete your CCC Apply application, you will receive an email with your Butte College student ID number, the username for your student email address, and a temporary password.  While you wait, complete Step 2, Apply for Financial Aid.

When you apply, you’ll choose a major or goal. Explore your options at butte.edu/programs.

Complete a Financial Aid Application

Applying for financial aid is one of the first steps toward paying for college. 

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) to be considered for grants, scholarships, fee waivers, work-study, loans, and other financial aid programs. Financial aid applications are also required for certain programs, including the Butte College Promise Scholarship.

MyBC is Your Student Portal
 Activate your Butte College account to access email, registration, and student tools. You’ll receive an Admissions email within 7 days with your username, email, and student ID.
 
To Activate Your Account:
  • Visit the MyBC Portal & Click  "Log In.” 
  • Enter your MyBC username and password (from your Admissions email).

Complete Orientation and meet with a counselor to plan your first semester.
All first-time college students are required to complete Orientation. During an in-person Orientation, you'll explore campus, connect with the financial aid team, and register for classes with an academic counselor. Orientation is all about setting you up for a successful start at Butte College!

If you have a personal cicrumstance that makes it hard for you to come to one of our campuses, you can request Online Orientation.

The Butte College Promise Scholarship offers two years of free tuition for first-time, full-time students. This scholarship helps eligible students reduce the cost of college, stay on track to graduate, and build a strong foundation for their future—whether transferring to a university or entering the workforce.

Butte College awards credit for successful completion of Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

Students must submit official score reports to Admissions and Records. Credit awarded may be substituted for coursework applicable to a degree or certificate, and also may be used to transfer to four-year colleges and universities (may be subject to limitations imposed by those institutions).

Each student at the time of admission or returning to Butte College (after being absent for one semester or more) will be classified according to his/her legal residence. Evidence may be required to prove physical presence in California and intent to make California the permanent home.
