The FAFSA is used to apply for federal and state financial aid to help pay for college.
How to Apply
Complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov to apply for federal and state financial aid.
Who Should Complete the FAFSA
Complete the FAFSA if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
If you are not eligible for federal financial aid, you may still qualify through the CADAA (California Dream Act Application).
When to Apply
Submit your financial aid application as early as possible each year.
- Butte College (California Community College): Apply by September 2
- Transferring to a CSU, UC, or other four-year school in CA: Apply by March 2
Applying early gives you the best chance of receiving all available aid.

The CADAA is used to apply for California state financial aid to help pay for college.
How to Apply
Complete the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) at dream.csac.ca.gov to apply for California state financial aid.
Who Should Complete the CADAA
Complete the CADAA if you are not eligible for federal financial aid and may qualify for California state financial aid through the California Dream Act.
This may include students who meet AB 540 criteria. Learn about AB 540 requirements.
If you are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, complete the FAFSA.
When to Apply
Submit your financial aid application as early as possible each year.
- Butte College (California Community College): Apply by September 2

The California College Promise Grant (CCPG) can help cover your enrollment fees at Butte College.
How to Apply

Who Should Complete the CCPG Application
Complete the CCPG application if you are a California resident or meet AB 540 eligibility requirements and are not completing the FAFSA or CADAA.

If you complete the FAFSA or CADAA, you will automatically be considered for the CCPG.
When to Apply
You can apply at any time, and more than one application may be available at the same time. Applying early helps ensure your enrollment fees are waived as soon as possible.
How to Submit
Submit your completed CCPG application to the Butte College Financial Aid Office.
