What Is an AA-T or AS-T?

An Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) or Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) is a special degree designed for students who want to transfer from a California community college—like Butte College—to a California State University (CSU).

When you complete an AA-T or AS-T and meet CSU eligibility requirements, you’ll receive:

  • Guaranteed priority admission consideration to the CSU system (though not to a specific campus)
  • A streamlined path to earning your bachelor’s degree

Why Choose an AA-T or AS-T?

Save time and money: Most transfer students take around 80 units to transfer—but only 60 are required. The AA-T/AS-T helps prevent taking extra, unnecessary classes.

No repeating classes: Courses are designed to transfer cleanly to CSU campuses, so you don’t have to retake them.

GPA boost: You’ll get a GPA bump when applying to impacted CSU campuses or majors.

Stay on track: If you're accepted into a similar major at a CSU, you’ll be on track to complete your bachelor’s degree with just 120 units total.

Is It Right for You?

The AA-T/AS-T is a great fit if:

  • You plan to transfer to a CSU in a similar major
  • You want a clear path to a bachelor's degree
  • You want to maximize your transfer credits

Keep in mind that while the degree guarantees admission somewhere in the CSU system, it doesn’t guarantee a spot at a specific campus.

These transfer pathways are designed for students who plan to transfer to Chico State and aren’t necessarily pursuing an Associate’s Degree for Transfer (ADT). In some cases, an ADT may still be your best option—so it’s important to meet with a counselor to review what works best for your goals. This is not a complete list. For a full list of transfer majors at Chico State, other CSUs, or UCs, visit ASSIST.org.

WICHE and WUE Program Links

What is the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)?

If you are a resident of a WICHE state, you are eligible to request a reduced WUE tuition rate of 150% of the resident rate at one of the 145 participating schools in the West. WICHE states include: - Alaska - Arizona - California - Colorado - Hawaii - Idaho - Montana - Nevada - New Mexico - N. Dakota - Oregon - S. Dakota - Utah - Washington - Wyoming. Virtually all undergraduate fields are available to WUE students at participating colleges and universities. Some institutions have opened their entire curriculum on a space-available or first-come, first-serve basis; others offer only designated programs at the reduced WUE rate. Currently, some 145 public institutions participate in WUE; not all public institutions in every WICHE state participate in the program. WICHE's student exchange programs offer a broad range of higher education options for students each year at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Residents of WICHE states can gain affordable access to programs, states avoid costly and unnecessary duplication of programs and facilities, and colleges and universities can devote their resources to improving the quality of their educational offerings.
