What We Do

The Training Place helps businesses build employee talent with 200+ training programs. Our Butte College instructors hold industry-recognized credentials through global training partners, delivering practical, performance-focused training that supports economic growth and sustainability.

We provide affordable upskilling for all industries, with training available online, onsite, or at our Chico (Skyway Center) and Orland (Glenn Center) locations. Ask about memberships, and ETP funding, along with other workforce development options.

Butte College Training Place Instructor Joc C.

PhD Leadership & Change Management. MEd Organizational Development

Dr. Joc Clark has specialized in creating collaborative working environments, leadership skills and organizational development for more than 25 years. His employer training is customized using experiential methods for programs including participatory strategic planning, strengths based leadership, appreciative inquiry, coaching, transformational leadership, multicultural and action learning experiences. Joc holds a PhD in Leadership Studies and Change Management, a MEd in Organization Development, and a BA in Psychology and Spanish.v

Training & Workforce Development Specialist

Emiliano  Jimenez-Cornejo helps organizations adapt to changing workplaces by equipping leaders with practical, human-centered strategies grounded in economics and organizational development.

Since 2017, he has worked with organizations across Northern California to strengthen team dynamics, communication, and leadership effectiveness. As co-founder of Soligo, an AI learning company, he brings a perspective on using technology to enhance—not replace—human capability.

Butte College Training Place Instructor John D.

Trainer and CTE Faculty, Butte College

John Dahlgren is a Butte College faculty member with 35+ years of industry experience. His background includes manufacturing, construction, and small business ownership, with expertise in engineering, operations, safety, and environmental management.

He is an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer (10- and 30-hour), a quality professional trained at Philip Crosby Quality College, and experienced in ISO systems and regulated industries. John also specializes in lean manufacturing and is passionate about coaching and mentoring.

Morgan Massie possesses a diverse professional background encompassing organization and talent development, HR, instructional design, psychology, and coaching. Her skill set enables her to adopt a comprehensive and holistic perspective on human performance and talent management. By bridging strategy with personal values and strengths, Morgan ensures competency alignment and fosters a strong connection to vision, goals, and objectives. She is a Certified DiSC practitioner, Predictive Index Partner, and ICF credentialed coach. Morgan is also recognized as a Forbes contributor and a best-selling author.

Continuous Improvement, Practical Project Management

Jes Vargas has more than 28 years of experience in the fields of Engineering, Quality, Project Management, Business Development, Manufacturing and Executive Management at GCS Inc, Bombardier, Advance Technical Systems, Siemens and Rabbit Semiconductor. Throughout his career, Jes has served as a prime change agent within organizations. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a MBA in Operations, and certifications in TQM, Material Management, and Lean Manufacturing.

Butte College Training Place Instructor Shawn V.

Certified Trainer

Shawn Volland is our resource at The Training Place for energizing and practical training. Shawn has more than 20 years of professional training and academic teaching experience, including OSHA, TWI, CalTrans Construction, Trenching Safety and Traffic Control Procedures. Shawn earns high performance ratings by helping employers improve the bottom line, with outcomes yielding reduced turnover, elimination of waste or rework, and keeping employees safe in the workplace.

Employment & Labor Law Attorney

Ann Wicks has more than 20 years of experience advising companies of all sizes, and individuals, in matters involving employment and labor law. She works both locally in Butte County and with clients and firms in San Francisco and beyond. Ann specializes in a variety of workplace legal issues including wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, whistleblower retaliation, wage and hour, workplace violence, contracts, Sarbanes-Oxley, WARN Act violations, and trade secrets.

Collaboration Coach

Jovanni Tricerri is a collaboration coach, trainer, and facilitator with over 25 years of experience bringing diverse groups together to solve complex challenges. He designs leadership programs for youth, executives, and managers, helping them lead with intention and impact. Jovanni holds degrees from Westmont College and Gonzaga University in Communication and Leadership.

Trauma Response & HR Expert

Scott Dinits is the HR Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the North Valley, Co-Director of Ability First Sports, and a trainer with the Butte College Training Place. With over 22 years of experience, he supports schools, nonprofits, and community groups through training in youth development, trauma-informed systems, and organizational practices.

The Training Place - Project Manager & CCC Liaison

Alastair Roughton is a Butte County local with Silicon Valley & Federal Reserve enterprise communications experience who shares best practices in supply chain principles to support local economic and workforce development needs in multiple industries. He also advocates for CTE as a Board Trustee for Butte County Office of Education and the District's liaison to the California Conservation Corps. Please reach out directly to participate in local HR, Manufacturing Collaboratives or our Employment Training Panel training contract and other grant funding sources.

The Training Place - Director

Annie Rafferty, M.S. Training and Organizational Development is the Director of Contract Education, Training and Development and California Community College Chancellor's Office Not-For-Credit Technical Advisor Provider with 23 years industry and 17 years community college experience. She partners with employers, industry, and community organizations to customize workforce training, leadership development, and performance consulting to build practical upskill and new hire programs that strengthen talent, organizational culture, and economic growth.

The Training Place - Program Assistant

Jean Sweet has served Butte College for 27 years and supports specialized workforce development programs as Administrative Secretary. She coordinates the Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training (ULCAT) and UVM Pre-Inspector certification programs, providing key support to trainers and partner colleges. Jean holds a BA in Information and Communication Studies from CSU Chico and was recognized as Butte College’s 2024–2025 Classified Employee of the Year.

The Training Place - Administrative Assistant

Erica Piper brings a unique blend of small business ownership and public service experience to workforce development. As a former downtown Chico business owner and current team member at The Training Place, she leads projects, coordinates training programs, and works closely with employers and trainers to ensure successful training delivery. Whether streamlining processes, enhancing the participant experience, or expanding training opportunities, Erica is committed to making programs more effective, relevant, and impactful for the communities she serves.
