Your success is our priority and TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is here to help you every step of the way. If you’re the first in your family to attend college, navigating financial challenges, or living with a disability, you don’t have to do it alone. TRIO SSS offers personalized support, resources, and guidance designed to help you stay on track, graduate, and reach your goals whether that means transferring to a four-year university or launching your career. The TRIO  community is welcoming, encouraging, and committed to seeing you thrive.

Academic Coaching

You will get personalized, one-on-one academic coaching to help you stay on track and reach your academic and personal goals.

Accessibility and Accommodations

You will get support in accessing disability-related services and accommodations, helping you understand your rights and connect with the resources you need.

Financial Guidance

You will get guidance to help you navigate the financial aid process with confidence. This includes one-on-one support with completing the FAFSA application, understanding your financial aid options, and submitting appeals if needed.

Transfer and College Planning

You will get personalized transfer advising to help you explore your options, participate in college tours, support with staying on track for university admissions, assistance with transfer applications, and guidance with college & career planning every step of the way.

Eligibility

Eligibility is based on federally defined criteria, one of the following must be met, if you have already received an associate or bachelors degree you are NOT eligible for TRIO SSS:

Are you:

  • First-generation: Neither parent has graduated from a university and received a bachelors degree OR
  • Limited income: Meet federal low income criteria based on taxable income OR
  • Have a documented physical or learning disability and or are a DSPS student

In addition:

  • You must be registered for at least six units of Butte College classes
  • You must be enrolled in an Associate or Certificate program
  • You must be in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA including course work from previous institutions)

Submit your application

  • Fill out the application completely 
  • Be sure to pay special attention to the Needs Assessment section, we will use the information to ensure you have a need for program services
  • If you are younger than 25, we will need your parent(s) income information and signature for verification

Application review

Once your application is received allow a minimum of two weeks for review:

  • If any information is missing you will be contacted by email 
  • If your application is complete, you will go to STEP 4

Intake Interview

A TRIO SSS Retention Specialist will call you to make an appointment for your Intake Interview to discuss:

  • Academic & Career Goals
  • Personal Goals
  • Academic Needs & Support

Eligibility is based on federally defined criteria where at least one of the following must be met:

  • First generation: Neither parent has graduated from a four-year college or university OR

  • Limited income: Meet federal income criteria based on taxable income OR

  • Have a documented physical or learning disability

AND meet both of the following requirements:

  • Possess academic need for program services AND

  • U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. Unfortunately, at this moment we are unable to serve DACA students.

In addition:

  • You must be registered for classes at Butte College

  • You must be enrolled in an Associate Degree or Certificate program

  • You must be in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA including course work from previous institutions)

  • You cannot be on financial aid probation
  • If you have already received an associate or bachelors degree you are NOT eligible for TRIO SSS
