The Center for Academic Success (CAS) offers free tutoring, supplemental instruction, and workshops to help you build strong study skills and succeed in your classes. With locations across our service area and trained student leaders, CAS gives you the tools and support to reach your academic goals.

CAS Services

Free tutoring in many subjects including Math, Science, Writing, Language, and more.

CAS provides tutoring support for a variety of subjects at all three locations. Specific Schedules are available in the Penji app. This is a free app in your app store.  Access is also available in the EDUC 310 course in Canvas.  Please contact us if you have trouble accessing tutoring schedules.

Butte College's Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a free, peer-led academic support program designed to help students succeed in traditionally difficult or "bottleneck" courses. It focuses on building collaborative study communities and improving overall course comprehension

Workshops focused on skills like time management, stress management, note-taking, test prep, and more.

Support designed specifically for student-athletes, including structured study sessions, tutoring referrals, and positive academic habit coaching.

Group Study Rooms

Breakout rooms are available for student groups in CAS on the main campus (LRC 203) and at the Glenn County Center CAS (GCC 113) during the fall and spring semesters only. Contact Amy at 530-895-2808 or hughesam@butte.edu for more information.

Success Coaching

Learning Resource Specialists, faculty members in CAS, are available to meet one-to-one with students to discuss learning strategies that support their academic success.

Instructors can refer students personally or through the Roadrunner Cares process; students can self-refer by coming to CAS in person or by taking EDUC 310 in Canvas and requesting to meet with a Learning Resource Specialist.

Computer and Digital Literacy Support

Free access to computers and printing at CAS locations, with occasional digital support help on site.
Laptop check-out available for student academic use in CAS spaces.

Any currently enrolled Butte College student may check in to use computers for school assignments, Canvas coursework, and internet research. Accessing nonacademic social media, online shopping, games, or pornographic material is not allowed on CAS computers.

Getting Started at CAS

The simplest way to get started is to stop by CAS at any of our three locations.

Enroll in EDUC 310

EDUC 310 is a free, zero-unit support course that connects you to services in the Center for Academic Success. It serves as your entry point to tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, workshops, and academic coaching. The course is housed in Canvas and helps organize your access to CAS resources.

How to Access EDUC 310

Step 1: Register for EDUC 310 in your MyBC portal just like any other class.
Step 2: Log into Canvas once the semester begins.
Step 3: Use the course modules to view tutoring schedules, join sessions, and access academic resources.

You can get help enrolling by contacting CAS staff or visiting a CAS location.
