Classified Senate President Honored with Statewide Award

Chris Westbay, media production specialist and former Classified Senate president at Butte College, has been awarded the Outstanding Classified Senate President Service Award at this year's Classified Leadership Institute.

This statewide award recognizes current or former Classified Senate presidents who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service. It is given to those presidents who lead with confidence, uplift their colleagues, and actively engage in shared governance to benefit both students and staff.

During his tenure as Senate president, Chris championed meaningful change. He established Butte College's Classified Engagement Committee to foster community and inclusion, led the founding of the Butte Strong Tree and annual Butte Strong Remembrance to honor those impacted by the Camp Fire, and served as founding chair of the college's Caring Campus initiative. He has also contributed his leadership at the state level through his work with CSEA committees.

His proudest achievement has been in developing new leaders who continue to grow in confidence, ability, and vision.
