Class of 2025 Graduate Success Story: Lily Golia

2025 Graduate and UC Santa Barbara Transfer Student

Although she wasn't sure what to study at first, Lily Golia arrived at Butte College eager to explore. Now, as she graduates with degrees in psychology, nutrition, and social and behavioral sciences, she looks back on a journey marked by personal growth and resilience.

Her growing fascination with psychology and nutrition led her to expand her studies, ultimately earning multiple degrees with just a few additional classes. "I never imagined I'd walk away with three degrees," she reflects. "It's a reminder of how much can change when you stay open to what sparks your curiosity."

As a first-generation college student, Lily found strength and encouragement in Butte College's tight-knit community. She found support and mentorship through programs like CAS and MESA, as well as her job at the Culture & Community Center. "Working on campus didn't just give me a job-it gave me a sense of belonging."

Lily also became involved in student life, serving as an ICC representative for the new volleyball club and building strong ties with staff and faculty. Mentors like Iris and Katya, and professors such as John Dahlgren and Jess Vickery, encouraged and believed in her potential. "They didn't just see me as a student-they treated me as someone with something valuable to offer."

Looking ahead, Lily has been accepted to UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and UCLA, with plans to pursue a career as a physician assistant. Inspired by personal family health challenges, she is drawn to cardiology and genetics. "My experiences at Butte College have shaped my desire to help others in a meaningful way," she said. "I'm excited for the future."
