Class of 2025 Graduate Success Story: Alexander Luna

2025 Graduate and Ag. Transfer Student

Alexander Luna, an agricultural science and business education major at Butte College, has always had a passion for agriculture. He was a part of the National Future Farmers of America Organization, which led to studying agriculture at Butte. A Las Plumas High graduate and lifelong Oroville resident, Alexander chose Butte for its affordability, supportive environment, and strong family ties to the college.

Alexander found guidance and support through Butte's TRIO program, where staff helped him with everything from financial aid to job interview preparation. "Yolanda in TRIO made a huge impact. She introduced me to the Career Center and really helped me gain confidence," he said.

Outside the classroom, Alexander joined the Ag Leadership and Horticulture clubs, which helped him step outside his comfort zone and develop leadership skills. He also credits Professor Bonnie Baxter's ag education course for deepening his interest in teaching.

After graduating with his associate's degree, Alexander plans to transfer to Chico State to complete his bachelor's and earn a teaching credential, with hopes of one day teaching agriculture in his hometown. "Teaching is something new every day. It's engaging, and I love the school environment," he said.

His advice to future students: "Don't rush. Explore your options and take the time to find what truly excites you."
