Class of 2025 Graduate Success Story: Alexis Maldonado

Alexis Maldonado's journey in music began with playing clarinet in middle school and has evolved into a passion for audio engineering and vocal performance. Choosing to study recording arts at Butte College felt like a natural step-not just because it was close to home, but because it offered a vibrant, supportive environment where her talent could thrive.

At Butte, Alexis quickly found her place within the music department, participating in nearly every ensemble and taking on leadership roles in organizing concerts and events. Under the mentorship of faculty like Ryan Heimlich, she expanded her skills through choir, private voice lessons, and audio production courses. "Singing Mozart's Requiem with the North State Symphony was an amazing experience," she recalls-just one of many opportunities that allowed her to grow as a performer and collaborator.

Though naturally introverted, Alexis says her time at Butte helped her gain confidence. "I've really stepped out of my comfort zone," she shares. Beyond the classroom, she immersed herself in campus life, especially enjoying spring events like the Spring Carnival and spring cultural celebrations that showcase the diversity and spirit of the college community.

After graduating, Alexis plans to transfer to Chico State's Recording Arts program, with hopes of one day working in the music industry in Southern California. Inspired by the mentorship of women in audio production, she's eager to contribute to a more inclusive space in the industry.

Her advice to future students: "Take the time to explore everything Butte has to offer. There's real support here-and so many opportunities to grow."
