Butte College to Host Third Annual Big Time Celebration May 1
Butte
College invites the community to its third annual Big Time on
Thursday, May 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the college's main
campus. This free, family-friendly event honors Native American
cultures and traditions through music, dance, art, food, and
community connection.
This year's Big Time will feature headliners Lil Mike & FunnyBone, a dynamic hip-hop duo known from "America's Got Talent" and "Reservation Dogs." As proud members of the Pawnee Nation and Southern Cheyenne tribe, Lil Mike & FunnyBone use music and comedy to uplift Native voices and inspire audiences across the country-their performance promises to bring energy, heart, and humor to the celebration.
The event will also feature California feather dancers, craft and jewelry vendors, food, and an elders' gift giveaway. One of the highlights for many guests will be the food offerings, which include beloved favorites such as Indian tacos, frybread, and Rez dogs-all available for purchase throughout the day.
Organized by the Butte College Native American Center in collaboration with a cross-departmental team from student services, the Big Time is more than a cultural festival; it's a celebration of unity.
"For many Native American families, it feels like a big family reunion," said Frankie Medrano, Native American Center Supervisor. "And it's a rare opportunity for non-Native attendees to experience California Native culture firsthand,"
Superintendent/President Virginia L. Guleff emphasized the significance of the event. "We are proud to host Big Time as a celebration of the Native peoples of this region and beyond," she said. "It's an opportunity for the broader community to engage, learn, and build connections."
The Big Time is free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome. It offers a meaningful chance to engage with Native culture, support Native artists and entrepreneurs, and connect with the Butte College Native American Center and local organizations.
