The Butte College Foster Kinship Care Education (FKCE) Program provides comprehensive training and support for prospective and approved Resource Parents, helping families meet Resource Family Approval (RFA) requirements while promoting safe, nurturing, and child-centered homes.

FKCE trainings and workshops provide Approved Resource Families with opportunities to fulfill required annual training hours while gaining valuable knowledge and resources.
Fostering Healthy Engagement & Communication with Miranda Johnson, MSW & LVN
This workshop will focus on improving engagement and connection with foster youth. It will also cover topics such as improving and facilitating communications between support workers, bio families, foster families, and children to provide holistic support to youth in foster care.

Fostering Advocacy and Support & Communication with Miranda Johnson, MSW & LVN
This workshop will focus on the roles and responsibilities of foster parents in youth advocacy. It will also cover topics such as the purpose of CFT Meetings, the roles of CASA workers, and youth advocacy in the education setting (IEP/504 Plans).

A Trauma-Focused Approach to Disaster Preparedness with Miranda Johnson, MSW & LVN
This workshop will focus on disaster preparedness and explore the impact past trauma can have on youth’s response to new traumatic experiences. It will focus on ideas to support and care for youth and families during traumatic events to limit retraumatization.

  • Training dates, times and locations are subject to change. Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment. Registered participants will be notified of any schedule changes or cancellations via email, which is why advance registration is required and strongly encouraged.
  • If you’re unable to attend a class, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing fostercareed@butte.edu
  • Individuals under the age of 18, including infants and children, are not permitted to attend FKCE classes or workshops and minor children should not be visible on camera during Zoom sessions.
  • Enrollment in Pods 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 is limited to RFA applicants, Approved Resource Parents, child welfare professionals and others who have received prior approval. Pods 3 and 7 are open to all parents and caregivers.
