Student Equity and Achievement Program
Introduction
In 2018, the Student Equity and Achievement (SEA) Program was established through the enactment of California Education Code 78222. It is the intent of the Legislature that the SEA Program support the California Community Colleges in implementing activities and practices that advance the systemwide goal to boost achievement for all students with an emphasis on eliminating the achievement gaps for students from traditionally underrepresented groups through the following:
- Implementing activities and practices pursuant to the California Community College Guided Pathways Grant Program.
- Ensuring students complete their educational goals and a defined course of study.
- Providing quality curriculum, instruction, and support services to students who enter college deficient in English and mathematics to ensure these students complete a course of study in a timely manner.
The SEA Program at Butte College identifies and addresses disproportionate impact (DI) in student achievement in the following five metrics:
- Successful enrollment
- Persistence from the first primary term to the second primary term
- Completion of transfer-level math and English in the first year
- Completion of certificates and degrees
- Transfer to a 4-year college
We acknowledge that it is our responsibility as an institution to improve the outcomes of all our students with an emphasis on eliminating equity gaps for disproportionately impacted student groups. It’s all about giving every student an equitable chance to succeed and achieve their goals.
