Work Experience

Persons interested in obtaining college level credit for on-the-job learning can enroll in the Cooperative Work Experience Education Program also known as Work Experience or an internship. If you are working in a field that is related to your major you will want to enroll in Career Work Experience. For those of you who are working in a field that is not related to your major you will want to enroll in General Work Experience.

If you are interested in this program but do not yet have a job, contact our office and set up an appointment to have one of our Job Developers help you find a position that is right for you.

Career Work Experience

Am I qualified to enroll?

Any student who has a job related to their field of study may qualify to enroll in Career Work Experience if, in the opinion of a faculty member from the student's field of study, the job provides significant opportunity for learning new college level skills.

Anyone enrolled, or planning to enroll, in 2 or more Butte College courses during any semester may be allowed to enroll in ½ to 8 units of Career Work Experience. The maximum allowable units that may taken is 16 units overall. 9 units of Work Experience are transferable to C.S.U. The number of units earned will be based on the number of hours the student works during the semester (75 hours of paid work = 1 unit) and (60 hours of unpaid work = 1 unit) and the number of learning objectives the student completes.

* No student will be allowed to earn more than 16 units of credit for "on the job learning," in any combination of programs or colleges in the state of California.

If you are enrolled in 1 or fewer standard Butte College courses you may earn from ½ to 6 units per semester. No student will be allowed to enroll in General Work Experience for more than 4 semesters or earn more than 6 total units.
