Course Description: This course follows Acting I and continues the exploration of theories and techniques used in preparation for the interpretation of drama through acting. The emphasis will be placed on deepening the understanding of the acting process through character analysis, monologues, and scenes. (C-ID THTR 152).

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the various techniques of acting in performance.
2. Demonstrate the ability to create a character using textual analysis.
3. Develop an expanded range and flexibility as an actor.
4. Evaluate scene work developed from published plays.
5. Apply elements of effective acting techniques as a personal standard.
6. Evaluation of acting technique in a live performance.

Reading Assignments

1. Read Backstage Protocol and write an application for the acting process.
2. Read During the Run and apply the vocabulary to rehearsal.

Writing Assignments

1. Prepare a 500-word written analysis of a character from a scene from Angels in America.
2. Complete a 10-page research paper on the acting used in film noir as discussed in this course. Your paper should be a critical analysis and evaluation of the acting and other artistic elements of the production.

Out-of-Class Assignments

1. Create a comprehensive character biography for a role you're studying or preparing to perform, detailing their background, motivations, relationships, and key life events that shape their behavior and choices within the context of the play or script.
2. Attend a theatrical production. Be prepared to discuss the actors' performances in creation of the characters within the world of the play(s).
