Course Description: In this course, students will expand and cultivate skills in haircutting and hairdressing. Topics will include client consultation, applying required health, safety and disinfection protocols, advanced haircutting techniques and formal hairstyling training. Students will work towards California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology minimum hours in subjects learned. This course is an advanced course in the Cosmetology and Hairstyling program sequences.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Use professional tools and equipment.
2. Demonstrate soft skills to effectively communicate with the general public.
3. Demonstrate sanitary performance of all tasks and skills related to hair care according to California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Rules and Regulations.
4. Design formal hairstyles to flatter various face shapes.
5. Perform client services commensurate to level of experience.
6. Synthesize information regarding hair texture and density to create an appropriate haircut.

Reading Assignments

1. Read Chapter 13 in the course textbook on Braiding and Braid Extensions. Be prepared to discuss these concepts with the class.
2. Read Chapter 14 in the course textbook on Wigs and Hair Additions. Be prepared to discuss the methodology using proper terminology.

Writing Assignments

1. Watch the assigned hairstyling video and write a brief summary on the procedure, materials and implements, using proper terminology.
2. Answer the study questions at the end of chapter on Braiding and Braid Extensions. Be prepared to discuss with the class.
