Course Description: This course provides a foundation in the study of maternal-child care. Maternal-child nursing presents family centered care throughout the perinatal period and continues with the study of family centered care of children from infancy through adolescence. Included are disorders of the reproductive system. Graded only.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Describe the basic physiology and pathophysiology of diseases in the reproductive system.
- Formulate a plan of care using the nursing process for clients with reproductive disorders
- Describe the standards of practice for perinatal care.
- Formulate a plan of care for the family during the perinatal period using the nursing process.
- Describe normal growth and development from conception throughout adolescence.
- Describe nursing care adaptation necessary to meet the needs of infants and children with communicable diseases and common congenital, genetic, and acquired disorders.
- Formulate a plan of care for infants and children utilizing the nursing process.
