Course Description: This course prepares the student for Honda or Acura dealer employment by offering the same training content that dealer technicians must complete. Students will learn fundamental skills in all eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification categories with a focus specific to Honda and Acura. This course is for students in an ASE Foundation accredited automotive program.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Analyze and interpret Honda/Acura dealership level service information at a fundamental level.
2. Identify the differences from the general eight ASE certification areas and specific Honda/Acura dealership fundamental training requirements.
3. Demonstrate readiness to apply fundamental Honda/Acura dealership training in a professional service environment.
4. Navigate Honda/Acura dealership specific online repair database at a basic level.

Reading Assignments

1. Read the procedure for PDI for a 2025 Honda Odyssey found in the service information tab within the Honda Interactive Network. and be prepared to discuss the procedure with your instructor.
2. Search for Express information within the Honda Interactive Network. Find information on the maintenance minder, main and subsections. Be prepared to discuss maintenance servicing with the instructor.

Writing Assignments

1. Complete the Honda online module PDC08 Pre-Delivery Inspection Process. Post in the related discussion thread you answer the following question. What is the purpose of a PDI and what does it include? Comment and discuss two additional threads with your peers.
2. Access the Multipoint Inspection (MPI) discussion from the Service Express section: Locate the MPI forms. Review and post the following: Tell the class about one section of the form. More than one section is okay, too. Some examples you can use or create your own are: Why is there no yellow in the battery section? What's with the tires being measured in 32nds of an inch on a car that primarily uses metric? Why an option on the spare? How do you put in the next service due information when a maintenance minder runs it? If you mark anything red, what do you do next? Post your answers in the discussion thread and respond to two peers.

Out-of-Class Assignments

1. Complete required readings from Honda ServiceExpress and i-HDS on basic electrical principles and the charging system (including ELD operation, alternator control, and battery sensor), then write a 250–400 word explanation of how the Honda dual-mode charging system (with Electrical Load Detector and PCM control) regulates voltage output in 2018+ models.
2. Evaluate two provided real-world charging system case studies by identifying misdiagnoses (e.g., immediate alternator replacement without load testing), explaining why they were incorrect, determining the single most revealing test (e.g., ELD signal verification or battery sensor reset), and rating the original technician’s efficiency using the supplied rubric.
