We can help you access books or articles not currently available at Butte College Library. Interlibrary Loan locates and borrows materials for you from other libraries across the globe. This service is available to current Butte College students, staff and faculty members.
Search for the item in our catalog. Click on the title. If our library does not own the item, click on the "Request Item through Interlibrary Loan" button.
Fill-in the required information.
After your request has been processed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. When your requested item arrives at our library you will be notified by email that it is available for pickup at the Main Campus Library.

What is interlibrary loan?
Allows you to borrow books or articles from other libraries when they are not owned by Butte College Library.

How long does it take?
Usually about a week from local libraries. Items from more distant libraries will take longer.
Does it cost anything?
Items are generally free, however some libraries will charge us to borrow an item. You can indicate the amount you are willing to pay for an item.
What items are available?
Books and articles that are not owned by Butte College.
What items are not available?
Textbooks, audio-visual items, titles we own, reference books, genealogy, whole issues of periodicals, software, maps. Some libraries refuse to lend new books.
How do I use interlibrary loan?
Follow the instructions above to submit a book or article request.
Where do I pick up and return interlibrary loans?
At the Interlibrary Loan office in LB 211 at the Main library.
How long can I keep the loaned material?
The lending library sets this - usually 2 or 3 weeks.
Can I renew the loan?
Only if the lender allows it. Give us at least 3 days notice before your due date. You can request a renewal by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (530-879-4066).
What are my responsibilities?
ALWAYS check the book catalog or periodical databases (EBSCO, Proquest, etc.) before requesting an interlibrary loan.
Fill out forms completely and accurately.
Limit your requests to 5 at a time, including those already filled or in process.
Pick up and return items on time. Fines for lost, damaged or overdue books are set by the lender.
Fees not paid will be placed on your college account.
Non-compliance with procedures may jeopardize your loan privileges.
Policies for Butte College patrons
Interlibrary loan services are available to current Butte College staff and currently enrolled students.
Patron will fill out a Butte College Library interlibrary loan form (in person or online).
Patrons are limited to 5 simultaneous requests, including those already filled or in process.
The library will notify the patron when the item requested arrives, but it is the patron´s responsibility to check on and pick up the item. Patron will show valid identification when checking out an interlibrary loan.
Patrons are expected to return interlibrary loan books by the due date. Failure to do so may result in a hold being placed on their accounts until the book is returned. Patrons may also be liable for overdue charges established by the lending library.
If the book is lost, the charge will be set by the lending library, and the patron will be responsible for that entire amount. NOTE: These are not our books. A book may be considered lost when the lending library decides to call it lost. Thus, excessive delay in returning interlibrary loans is strongly discouraged.
Noncompliance with these policies may jeopardize the patron´s lending privileges.
