All students who attend Butte College are required to have basic skill placement levels on file prior to enrolling in classes. One way to establish placement levels is by completing the Basic Skills Assessment (BSA) at Butte College. The BSA measures your skills in reading, English and math. Your results from this assessment are used with other information from your academic history to establish placement levels and course eligibility.
- If you feel that your course placement from a previous assessment may not reflect your abilities accurately, you have the option to retest once on any one of our assessment tests. Retests are administered on a regular basis through the Assessment Office. Click here for the test schedule.
- Each assessment test may be retaken one time. After that, you must complete a class in that subject area before being allowed to take the assessment for a third time. Exceptions will be considered for students with extenuating circumstances. Be sure to use the study guides to review before retesting.
