and Enrollment Information
The following courses are available on DVD's and/or via the Internet within the Natural Resources, Park and Recreation, and Agriculture Program at Butte College. E-mail or phone instructor (530) 895-2395 to help with questions. The college Bookstore is online to order books/DVD's, etc., view this site to obtain class materials. The department also offers short semester, Fast track classes.

Enrollment and Admissions Information
Steps for enrollment if you have never attended Butte College, Oroville, California, U.S.A. However, if you are able to visit the campus or it's centers orientation tapes are available for each class. Call 530.895.2430 to view DVD's and Internet orientation videos. They are extremely important! You may start the distance classes at anytime. Just E-mail instructor for directions or contact the campus. You may also wish to contact the Bookstore online for class materials.
1. Phone 530.895.2361 or 530.895.2378 and request an application for Admission to the college sent to you. Or download the admission application* and mail a signed copy to the school, (Notice; you must obtain or have Adobe "Acrobat" Reader installed on your computer in order to open the college application form, it is a free download). Next determine fees. You will have to mail a cashier check in US dollars when fees have been determined. If you need help e-mail the college registrar or call 530.895.2746.
2. Once you have been accepted to the college all you need is a student ID number (given by the college), computer and modem. After you have been properly enrolled E-mail instructor for password and method to obtain instructional materials. Cost of class materials varies between classes and can be paid for by a cashier check in US dollars.
3. If college credits are not a concern but you wish to enroll for personal edification, e-mail instructor to enrolled in courses via individual contract.
4. If you are a previous student of Butte College a student ID number is all that is required to enroll in a Internet course. E-mail instructor for additional instructions.
5. If you are able to attend, all distance classes have on-campus orientation meetings at the beginning of each semester. These meetings are taped and available for viewing through the college and it's centers, call, 530-895-2430 for further information about dates, times, and locations.
*The college application is a PDF file and may require an additional application on your computer to open the document. If this is the case visit the Adobe free software site for the appropriate computer software, termed Adobe Acrobat Reader).

- Students may be eligible to receive degrees or certificates of completion based upon a variety of program formats. E-mail for additional information. On-line certificates of completion in Natural Resources and Parks and Recreation are currently available.
The following information describes some goals and philosophies that our distance education program offers within the Natural Resource Department at Butte College.
- Distance education students work independently, watching television and/or DVD's, and/or Internet programs and reading printed materials at home and/or work, with guidance from the course instructor through a variety of communication and instructional techniques (i.e., modem, Internet, mail, etc.). The DVD programs length and number of DVD lessons varies from class to class but most consist of 28 to 32, 30 to 50 minutes videos. Other classes are completely via the Internet, formats vary. Visit the demo class sites located on this page. DVD's are available for purchase through the instructor's office 530.895.2395. All courses have complementary materials; workbooks, syllabi, and texts, etc. All class materials are available through the college bookstore.
- Distance education courses, in most respects, (i.e., academic rigor, and student requirements), are equivalent to traditional college courses. Distance students study under the rules and regulations of Butte College in accordance with the State of California Educational Code Guidelines. Faculty members and students will make similar kinds of academic and instructional decisions as they would in traditionally taught classes and interact with each other through a combination of methods, as previously mentioned.
- Distance education via the television/DVD's or computer/net will meet the goals of our agriculture and natural resource students, (i.e., in the area of Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Parks and Recreation Management, Wildlife Management, etc.) either general or specialized subject matter.
- Other specialized distance programs, (i.e., career upgrading, short courses) consist of one or more course packages that may require a minimum of one semester to a maximum of two semesters or more to complete.
- The Natural Resources Department offers numerous television and Internet courses through the MDCL Department, 530-895-2430. Both areas service distance interest on campus. Courses vary from short courses to college transfer degree and general education classes.
- Additionally, Butte College offers selected technical training courses that are designed to constantly update today's natural resource, environmental science, park and recreation, and agricultural employees.
- The instructional methods incorporated at our campus may very well serve as a roll model for other community colleges interested in distance educational technology. Our distance education program includes a high degree of flexibility for students with regards to enrollment opportunities and could shorten the length of completion times for student degrees.
- Advantages of telecommunication systems, incorporated with student involvement with telecommunication learning, along with the differences in instructional delivery methods, have what we believe developed into a distance program on the cutting edge of educational technology.
