NEW STUDENTS ONLY

This includes all new High School Graduates

New students must complete an application.

If you have never attended Butte College, you must first complete an application. Students can apply by downloading the application (Applications) from this website or requesting one be sent by the Admissions Office at (530) 895-2361. It is also possible to complete an application on-line; return to the Butte College home page to initiate this process through the "On-line Services." Upon processing, you'll receive a letter from the College outlining the pre-enrollment activities for new students. If you haven't received any information from the College one week after submitting your application, contact the Admissions Office to ensure receipt of your application.

ALL STUDENTS - INCLUDES NEW

All students must be cleared through Orientation.

You are cleared if you have completed Butte's required orientation activities for new students. After your application is processed, you are mailed information on orientation. There are exemptions from Orientation, some which require clearance by the Orientation Office prior to registering for classes. If you would like to find out more about new student orientation click above or call the Orientation Office at (530) 895-2416 to schedule an appointment.

Complete the Assessment requirement.

To ensure success, Butte College requires students to have math, reading, and English placement levels on file prior to registering for classes. This is met by completing the Basic Skills Assessment (BSA) or college coursework in English and math. Identify a test date before calling to sign up for the BSA, or review the exemption information to see if you qualify for one.

Request official transcripts be sent to Butte

If you have previously attended other colleges, have your transcripts sent to the Butte College Admissions and Records Office. Call the Assessment Office at (530) 895-2350 if you need to have your transcript evaluated for placement purposes or to meet a prerequisite. Allow a minimum of two working days for the evaluation to be completed.

Choose your classes.

Plan your schedule with some back-up possibilities. Check under the Course Offerings schedule on the status of the class (e.g., number of seats remaining, Open/Closed, etc.). If the term has begun, the class will display as closed though it may be possible to still add the class. Important: If repeating a class or if your course eligibility doesn't qualify you for a math, reading or English class, you won't be able to register until a petition is on file. Contact the Counseling Office for more assistance at (530) 895-2378.

Register for your classes.

Students participating in pre-enrollment START activities register on the day they go through Orientation. All other students register by phone or on-line according to the appointment schedule located at the On-line Services. Open registration times are for all students who have met the pre-enrollment requirements. Students concurrently enrolled in elementary, junior or senior high school have their own time to register (call 530-895-2462 for more information).

Pay for your classes.

You can conveniently pay for your classes with a Visa, MasterCard or Check Card or send payment, or pay in person. Please submit payment promptly. See "Money Matters" Quick Guide to Fees for expected costs and refund information.

Fees are due at the time of registration. Fees are considered late and subject to a $10.00 billing fee 14 calendar days from the date you register for classes. Postmarks will not be accepted.
