2013-14 Unit Plan
Reg2Go

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Reg2Go program is to bring the opportunity of a college experience to high school seniors. Through the collaborative efforts of Butte College and local high schools, Reg2Go inspires, supports and provides the necessary tools to successfully make the transition from high school to college.

Program Description

The Reg2Go Program is designed to facilitate and assist high school seniors in their transition to higher education and Butte College specifically. The Reg2Go Program consists of three components: Classroom visits, Assessment and Orientation, Counseling and Registration

Through the Reg2Go Program, seniors are able to meet their matriculation requirements and register for classes before they graduate from high school. In academic year 2011-2012 over 1,310 seniors from 33 high schools participated in the Reg2Go Program.

Future Development Strategy

Strategy 1

Classroom Visitations are our primary method of introducing Butte College and Reg2Go specifically to thousands of high school students each year.  Currently, presentations are being done by staff from a variety of student services which further depletes office staffing.  It is our intent to continue to create a hiring pool of specially trained part-time, temporary workers to conduct Classroom Visitations in November, December and January.

Initiatives
  • Inspiring passion through collaboration
  • Focusing on student success

  • Supporting Rationale
The visitations are extremely important because this is the one time we get to speak with the senior class students and let them know the many programs and opportunities available at Butte College.  This presentation in the high school classroom provides many students with information that they previously were not aware of.

    Supporting Rationale Alignment
  • Maintaining core programs and services
  • Strategy 2

Continue to support and expand if possible the ratio of counselors to students at the Reg2Go counseling sessions.

    Initiatives
  • Focusing on student success
  • Enhancing an innovative, responsive, and accountable culture

  • Supporting Rationale
Our high school counselor partners continue to tell us that the high school students need more time with the counselors.  This has been a constant suggestion from the participating high schools for the last several years.  A higher ratio of counselors to students would help remedy this problem.

    Supporting Rationale Alignment
  • Maintaining core programs and services
  • Increasing student success
  • Strategy 3

Develop and present a Parent Orientation for the parents of Reg2Go students on a Saturday on the Main Campus.  Since Reg2Go is held primarily during school hours, many parents are not aware of the steps and timelines for registering for college and the appropriate ways in which to support their college-bound children.

    Initiatives
  • Inspiring passion through collaboration
  • Focusing on student success
  • Valuing a culture of learning

  • Supporting Rationale
Because Reg2Go takes place during the school day, many parents especially first generation ones, are unaware of the process and how they can best help their student.  A parent orientation would answer many of these questions.

    Supporting Rationale Alignment
  • Maintaining core programs and services
  • Increasing student success
  • Strategy 4

Increase the number of student leaders during Reg2Go Counseling portion of the program.  Our goal is to have three leaders per room.

    Initiatives
  • Inspiring passion through collaboration
  • Focusing on student success

  • Supporting Rationale
Having more student leaders in the room during the Counseling portion of Reg2Go will allow the Counselors to spend their time working with students instead of dealing with MyBC Portal issues or answering general questions on how to search for classes, etc.

    Supporting Rationale Alignment
  • Maintaining core programs and services
  • Increasing student success
