Safe Place and Wellness Program
The mission of the Safe Place & Wellness Program is to 1) offer a visible support system for victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking through outreach, crisis intervention, advocacy, and education programming; and 2) through the Butte-Cares (Butte College's Student Mental Health Project), implement educational and resource development activities in the area of faculty and staff training and peer-to-peer mentoring. Additionally, suicide prevention training will be available to all Butte College faculty and staff in order to better educate our campus community about mental health issues.
The Safe Place & Wellness Program provides a space for victims and survivors as well as allies of domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault to seeking services on campus. Services that have been provided include court accompaniment, judicial affairs advocacy, law enforcement advocacy, restraining order preparation and filing. Connecting clients (students) to outside agencies to outside agencies, collaboration with the College's Mental Health Specialist, and interfacing with instructors on behalf of the client (student) are also critical services provided. The Safe Place & Wellness Program is also responsible for the implementation of the "Butte-Cares" Student Mental Health Project. Program goals include: 1) provide sustained, intensive and high-quality campus-based mental health training for faculty, staff and administrators, 2) development and implement peer support programs that provide strategies to support and address unique needs of our student population including international students, foster youth, veterans and LGBTQ students, 3) develop and implement peer support programs that provide strategies to support and address the unique needs of our student population including international students, foster youth, veterans and LGBTQ students, and 4) develop and implement evaluation procedures that include pre and post tests to assess knowledge gained through social marketing, curriculum and training, peer-to-peer training programs, and suicide prevention.
Future Development Strategy
- Portion of Salaries/Benefits for Safe Place & Wellness Program Coordinator (11 month position): $49,188 (Student Mental Health grant will pay up to $31,250 of salaries/benefits). Total cost for position is $80,438.
- 2 Student Assistants (20 hours/week each): $11,520
