Administration of Justice

Mission Statement

The Butte College Public Safety Education & Training Center educates and trains students to serve and protect the public in a highly competent and professional manner.

Program Description

The Administration of Justice Program generates approximately 131 FTE. Reduced from two in the mid-2000s, there is currently one full-time tenured instructor, assisted by four active associate faculty. These faculty members combine their efforts to provide approximately thirteen scheduled class sessions per semester for certificate, degree or transfer degree purposes, as follows:

1. AS Degree in Criminal Justice (Designed for transfer to CSU, Chico)
2. AS-T Degree in Administration of Justice (Designed for guaranteed transfer to a campus in the CSU system)
3. AS Degree in Administration of Justice (Career/Technical)
4. Certificate of Achievement in Administration of Justice (Career/Technical)

All pedagogical caps have been reviewed and are appropriate.

  • Strategy 3

This entire degree program is operated, essentially, on the back of one full-time faculty member. Although there is limited use of part-time faculty, and it will be a priority in the near future to identify and employ additional part-time faculty, our ultimate desire is to pursue the addition of a second full-time faculty member for this popular major.

Room AHPS 122, the former Law Library, is equipped with 24 computers and is utilized predominantly for AJ-3 Legal Research. Use of the room is rapidly expanding to include meetings, drop-in use, Law and Fire academy repeat exams, limited legal research and other technology based gatherings. Although equipped with computers, the room is not equipped as a full capacity “smart classroom.” As a result, an additional room has to be utilized for teaching portions of AJ-3 (AHPS 118). Smart equipment, including integrated projection equipment and a full-capacity instructor “control station,” would allow for all of the AJ-3 needs to be met in that room while enhancing the room’s capacity for meeting other needs.

    Current Revenue Stream

The Administration of Justice program is supported primarily by the District General Fund.
