Steps to Enroll

STEPS TO ENROLL

Enrolling at Butte College is easy - simply follow the steps below! Students that meet the minimum language proficiency scores may apply through Regular Admission. Students that do not meet the minimum language proficiency scores may apply by transferring from our language program, American Language & Culture Institute (ALCI), with Conditional Admission.

Regular Admission 

1) APPLICATION
Complete and submit your Butte College application and supporting documents. Completed application packets will be processed within 5 business days from receiving them.

2) I-20 ISSUED
Once your application has been received, and you have been accepted, your form I-20 will be sent to you via airmail. A letter will accompany your I-20 explaining the dates and times of international student orientation which will include placement testing and registration.

3) PAY SEVIS FEE ONLINE
Applicants needing a visa to enter the U.S. must pay the SEVIS fee before going to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate for their visa interview. The fee must be paid at least three business days before the scheduled visa interview. To pay this fee, go to www.fmjfee.com. Fees may NOT be paid at the consulate.

4) VISA INTERVIEW
You must make an appointment at an embassy or consulate in order to receive your student visa (F1). To find the U.S. Embassy or Consulate nearest to you go to http://usembassy.state.gov. You will need to bring your Butte College I-20 to your appointment along with other documents (i.e. SEVIS payment receipt, financial documents, passport, etc.) Contact the embassy or consulate to find out what items you will need to bring to your interview. An arrival guide will be mailed to you that includes helpful interview information.

5) ORIENTATION
Once you arrive, International students have a special 3 day orientation. On the first day, you will participate in basic skills testing (reading, writing, and math). Based on your scores, you will be placed into classes suitable for your skill level. During the remainder of your orientation, you will tour the campus, meet your international student advisor, learn class regulations and register for your classes.

Conditional Admission

1) APPLICATION
Complete and submit your Butte College application, ACLI application, supporting documents and $100 fee. Send both applications and all documents to Butte College International Admission Officer, Rachel Wood.

2) I-20 ISSUED

Your Butte College conditional admission letter will be mailed to you, along with I -20, acceptance letter and orientation information from ALCI. 

3) PAY SEVIS FEE ONLINE
