Barry assisted in producing two summer productions for the San Francisco Shakespeare Company and five summer productions for Chico's Shakespeare in the Park. He is a veteran of the Butte College Theatre Department, teaching theatre classes and directing such plays as Six Characters in Search of an Author, Lysistrata, Tartuffe, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Much Ado About Nothing. He has recently directed Butte College's popular Fall musicals, including My Fair Lady and Kiss Me Kate. Barry has attended numerous postgraduate workshops including the International Actor's Training and British Drama Academy at Stanford University with Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason.

Tom has been in community and educational theatre for many decades in Northern California. He had been involved in hundreds of productions as a performer, director, and/or playwright. You can also hear Tom on most Saturday afternoons when he hosts the performing arts oriented show "Saturday Showcase" on KCHO Public Radio. Tom has been teaching Drama at Butte since 1990.

 

 

David teaches scenic design and construction classes. He holds a BA in Art and an MA in Theatre Set Design and he studied with Ming Cho Lee at Yale University. David has been doing scenic art and design for over 23 years. In addition to designing at various venues in San Francisco he has designed locally for CSUC for 18 years and for Butte College since 1997. Recent productions include Hayfever and Kiss Me Kate for Butte College and HMS Pinafore for CSUC.

Jerry has been acting and directing in the Chico area for twenty years, he has acted professionally with Theatre Works in Palo Alto and The Brown Theatre in Phoenix, AZ. He currently runs Chico's Shakespeare in the Park program and is active with CTC, The Blue Room, and Chico Cabaret. Jerry has written and directed six original full length plays.

 

 

 

 

Jeff Dickenson earned his BA in Theatre Arts from CSU, Chico , and his MA in English from San Francisco State University .  Before joining the drama faculties at Butte College and CSU, Chico , Jeff worked as an educator for the California Arts Project.  He also developed and taught acting courses at Keio University in Tokyo .  He continued this work for the American Language and Culture Institute in Chico and refined his Stanislavski-based approach with Brent Gibbs at the University of Arizona in Tucson .  Jeff now serves as a curriculum developer for Butte College , a representative of the Alliance of Chico-area Theatres, and as Company Director and Vice President of the Chico Cabaret.  A resident of the theatre matrix, Jeff has performed in over 100 shows and worked in over 20 theatres.

Dawn has a BA in Theatre Arts and an MA in Education, Curriculum and Instruction Option with and emphasis on the teaching of the Visual and Performing Arts. She has a background in program development and teacher training in the use of creative drama in the classroom. Dawn focuses on teaching the California Standards for the teaching of Drama in the K-12 curriculum. She also directs plays for Butte College and Chico community theatres - most recently Ensemble Theatre of Chico. Dawn has been instrumental in updating department curriculum and program objectives in the last year.

 

Emily Brannen, Instructor

 

EMILY BRANNEN

Emily has MFA and BA in Theatre Arts, Brandeis University.  She has attended the Summer Intensive Program at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA, and she is trained in Linklater Voice technique. Emily has lived and worked in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and New York in film, dance and theater.  Her original plays "Worm in the Bud" and "A Special Providence" have been produced in Chico and New York City, and were semi-finalists in prestigious Samuel French Off-off Broadway Short Play Festival in NYC.  She is currently writing a film. Her heros are Sam Shepard, Tina Packer and Mom. Proud to be a 4th-generation Chicoan.

Administrative Support

Jill handles all department business, including scheduling, posters and programs for the productions, and making sure everything runs smoothly. In addition to all she does at Butte College Jill also has two young children, both girls.
