Changes in the Library

Google Scholar partnership

Butte College has established a partnership with Google Scholar using OpenURL technology to locate our scholarly and professional journal articles.

You can search the world’s scholarly literature online at http://scholar.google.com. Google Scholar includes peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations.

Our partnership allows Google Scholar to determine which electronic journals and papers in the results list are owned by Butte College Library, and then includes special links to articles from those sources when they're available. Look in the results list for "Full-text@Butte" or "Check resources@Butte."

To make these links appear, just access Google Scholar from any Butte College campus, and you'll automatically see the "@Butte" links. For off-campus access, follow these steps:

  1. If you have cookies blocked, set your browser to accept cookies.
  2. Click on "Scholar Preferences" to the right of the Google Scholar search box.
  3. Type "Butte College" in the 'Library Links' section.
  4. Click "Save preferences."
  5. Start searching with links to your library's resources.

You will need your user name and password to access these resources from off-campus. Click here to find your user ID/password.

Google Books and Worldcat partnership

Butte College is now a member of Open Worldcat and has partnered with Google to help find resources in our library from Google Books (http://books.google.com) or Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.com)

For books in Google Scholar results, click "Find in a Library" to see the closest Library that owns the book.

For Google Books results:

  1. Click on the title of the book
  2. Scroll down on the right side frame
  3. Click "Find this book in a Library"

Upcoming events

National Library Week 50th Anniversary: April 13-19, 2008

We're planning another National Library Week celebration!

We'll have workshops, favorite book recommendations, contests and prizes. Check this page often for updates.

Book recommendations

Have you read a book that you enjoyed very much? Tell your friends, peers, and colleagues!

All students and faculty are encouraged to submit a book recommendation and tell everyone why you like it. (No need to write a book review; one or two sentences will do!) The Library will display your recommendation during our National Library Week Celebration, April 14-18.

Fill out the printable form here, and send it aong to Andy McCasland at the Main Campus library or to Louise Lee at Chico Center library. You can submit your favorites by dropping them off in person or via intercampus mail at the Main Campus Library, the Chico Center Library, or by e-mail to: leelo@butte.edu.

Call Andy at 879-4021 if you’d like to have your photo added to our display. He’ll schedule a time for a quick digital photo shoot.

Please send your book recommendations by Monday, April 7th if possible.
