Alumnus Awarded Scholarship

Butte College alumnus Michael Shoemaker was selected as a 2016 scholarship recipient by the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association (CCMBCA). Shoemaker, representing the northern region, received $500 and is attending the University of California at San Diego on a full ride student-athlete scholarship.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Michael,” said Russ Critchfield, Head Basketball Coach and faculty member for Butte College. Critchfield said Shoemaker was extremely deserving of the scholarship, exemplifying excellence in the classroom, in the community and on the court.

Criteria for the scholarship included:

  • Must have participated in basketball for two seasons
  • At the time of selection must have completed 40 semester units with a GPA average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Must have letters of recommendation

Nominees were evaluated on the above criteria, athletic participation, as well as participation in community and campus activities. “It’s been a pleasure getting to know Michael over the years,” said Critchfield. “It’s great to watch our students develop and grow,” he said.
