The Butte College Art Gallery announces Still, We Rise, Making Heritage Visible, an exhibition of photographs presented by the South Oroville African American Historical Society. The exhibit is on display from January 29 – February 15, 2013 in the Butte College Art Gallery, in honor of Black History Month. The gallery is hosting a reception on Friday, February 1, from 6 p.m. -7:30 p.m. Refreshments are provided, and the event is free and open to the public.
The photographs presented in Still, We Rise, Making Heritage Visible were collected by the South Oroville African American Historical Society from the residents and descendants of those who live on Oroville’s south side. The photographs illuminate the lives and work of the community since the early days of black settlement and serve to resurrect community memory and identity.
The Butte College Art Gallery is located on the main Butte College campus, 3536 Campus Drive, in the ARTS Building (ARTS 106) near Parking Lot 3. Gallery hours are Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. or by appointment. For more information, call (530) 895-2877 or (530) 895-2404.
