“Work’n Progress”

The Butte College Art Gallery is pleased to announce Work’n Progress, an exhibit by multitalented artist Dennis Wickes.  The exhibit will be on display Nov. 5 – Dec. 6 in the Butte College Art Gallery.

A reception for the artist will take place 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Nov. 7. Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

Wickes presents two collections in this exhibit - “Art for Art’s Sake” and “Sleeping Beauties.”

“Art for Art’s Sake” is a collection of photographs depicting artists and their favorite works.  This series of photographs explores the dynamic creative forces that motivate artists to make art.

“Sleeping Beauties” is a series of line drawings of the nude female form.  Wickes describes them as “an exercise in simplicity.”

Until his recent retirement, Wickes taught a combination of digital photography and business courses at Butte College and American River College in Sacramento.  He has worked in the graphic design field for 20 years and holds a MS Degree in Communications from Indiana University.

The Butte College Art Gallery is located on the main Butte College campus, 3536 Campus Drive, in the ARTS Building (ARTS 106) closest to parking lot 3.  Gallery hours are Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1-2 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by appointment.  For further information, call 895-2877 or 895-2404.
