New Bookstore, Associated Students Offices, Campus Lounge and Conference Center
Wednesday, January 26 at 11 a.m. at the Butte College Campus Center, 1st Floor
Butte College will celebrate the grand opening of its Campus Center on Wednesday, January 26 at 11 a.m. on the first floor of the Campus Center, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, Oroville. A ribbon cutting will take place with the Butte College Board of Trustees, Butte College President, Dr. Diana Van Der Ploeg, Butte College Director of Facilities Mike Miller, and Associated Students President, Eric Chisler.
This $5.3 million project consisted of the renovation of our 30,192 square foot Campus Center building which was completed on time-- and on budget.
The reconstruction of the first floor consisted of new restrooms, an office suite for the Associated Students and International Club Council, a 4,200 square foot lounge and conference center, expansion of the College’s Bookstore--which doubled in size, and an office suite for the Vice President of Student Services. The second floor construction included removing a wall to increase the space in the dining area and adding restrooms. A small marquee tower was added to provide a dining area on the second floor for faculty and staff along with a small conference room on the first floor.
The project was funded in part with local bond Measure A dollars, PG&E Rebates for replacement of the Air Handler Units, an Energy Commission loan for energy efficient upgrades, and the College’s bookstore.
Designed to LEED Silver criteria and current ADA Accessibility Standards, the building supports the District’s goals for sustainability utilizing LED lighting, high-efficiency HVAC equipment, dual pane glazing and sustainable building materials.
This project was the first construction project utilizing the Design Build process. The bridging documents were developed by Calpo, Hom, and Dong Architects (CHD) of Sacramento. The design and construction team was made up of Rainforth Grau Architects, Sacramento, and United Building Contractors of Chico. The majority of the subcontractors on this project were local.
The College’s Associated Students will be celebrating the grand opening during the first week of school, beginning January 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to giveaways, music, refreshments and food, there will be daily trivia and dance contests offered in the new Campus Center lounge.
