From October 31- November 14, Butte College will host six Presidents and Vice Presidents from several of the top 100 vocational higher educational institutions in China, as part of a Chinese international program--Vocational Education Leadership Training (VELT). During their visit, the Chinese delegation will make a presentation on their colleges to the Butte College campus community on November 2 in the College’s Center for Excellence, 3536 Butte Campus Drive at 3 p.m.
The focus of the trip is leadership training by providing a closer look at how vocational education and general education at American community colleges are structured and delivered. During their visit the delegation will meet with several Butte College Trustees and the President, as well as administrators, faculty, staff and students. Along with discussion and tours of career and technical education programs the delegates will learn about Butte College’s mission, strategic direction, core educational processes, support processes, academic programs, and organizational structure. Additionally, besides meeting with local governmental officials, business people and local citizens, the group will also tour of Sierra Nevada, CSU, Chico, the City of Chico, and visit a Butte College alumna at UC Berkeley.
The dignitaries are sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). Dr. Duke Sun, Butte College math instructor will accompany and translate for the guests. Dr. Sun is a native Chinese speaker and received his bachelor’s degree from mainland China and worked for the educational system in China, including at the Ministry of Education, for 10 years.
