Butte College’s SIFE Team is proud to once again partner with Paradise High School, 5911 Maxwell Drive, in their semi-annual International Economic Summit (IES) on Friday, December 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.
The IES program is a world trade simulation for high school students, which teaches fundamental economic concepts within the context of international trade. Utilizing the experience-based learning model, the IES program challenges high school students to think critically about the benefits and costs of trade and to explore the multifaceted process of globalization. Throughout this ten-week curriculum, students work in teams as economic advisors to an assigned country, researching the social, political, and economic conditions in order to create a strategic plan to improve living standards for their population.
The program culminates in a Mini Summit Competition Friday at Paradise High School, The High School students implement their plans through a host of activities such as alliance negotiations, trade issue debates, flag and concept quizzes, and an energizing trade session. Working with the faculty at Paradise High School and utilizing the curriculum developed for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, SIFE members provide assistance and serve as summit bankers and judges. SIFE will be donating custom made Klean Kanteen’s to the winning teams in selected categories.
