The Butte College Art/Digital Art & Design (ADAD) Department announces its new exhibit, “Mythology: Wood and Wood-fired Ceramic Sculpture,” by artist Stan Sours. The exhibit will be on display through October 19 in the Butte College Art Gallery at the main campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive. A reception will take place on Friday, October 15 from 5-7 p.m., with the artist. Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.
Sours has a studio at Ferncrest Farms, a small farm nestled between Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen. His work is narrative, with each piece conveying its own mythology. Sours draws on personal experience as a source of inspiration for his work; blending humor and universal symbols to create intriguing sculpture in both wood and ceramics. His artwork is on exhibit courtesy of the James Snidle Fine Arts Gallery in Chico.
In addition to the reception, a special hands-on, book publishing demonstration will be offered free of charge from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on October 15, inside the Butte College Arts Building.
The Butte College Art Gallery is located in the new ARTS Building closest to parking lot 3. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours on Wednesday until 7:30 p.m., or by appointment. For further information, call 895-2877 or 895-2404.
