AAUW Career Trek Takes Place at Butte College
for 8th Grade Girls Saturday, January 22

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) of Oroville, Gridley, Chico and Paradise are coordinating “Career Trek” for 8th grade girls at Butte College, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, on Saturday, January 22. The event is held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is a daylong event focused on educating students about career options in math and science. The program’s goal is to encourage female students to become interested in math and science careers. Butte College resources such as financial aid, scholarships, and loans will also be discussed.

The day offers a morning registration of $6 per person, and begins with breakfast, a welcome and greeting by Butte College President, Dr. Diana Van Der Ploeg. Breakout sessions featuring young working women are offered. Following the morning program, a lunch will be offered in the cafeteria. After lunch, the financial aid director, Karen Micalizio, will explain how students can afford college. In the afternoon, Butte College athletes will provide a tour of the campus. Butte College science and math instructors will offer a variety of lab demonstrations. The $6 registration fee includes a light breakfast, lunch and is open to all 8th grade girls and parents.
