The American Association of University Women of Gridley, Oroville, Chico and Paradise and Butte College are sponsoring “Career Trek” for 8th grade girls. The event will be held on Saturday, January 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is a daylong math and science program for eighth grade students and their parents. The program’s goal is to encourage female students to attend college and help parents understand what types of financial aid and other resources are available.

The day offers a morning registration of $5 per person, and begins with a welcome and greeting by Butte College President, Dr. Diana Van Der Ploeg. Breakout sessions featuring young working women are offered. Following the morning program, a lunch will be offered in the cafeteria. After lunch, the financial aid director, Karen Micalizio, will explain how students can afford college. In the afternoon, Butte College athletes will provide a tour of the campus. Butte College female science and math instructors will offer a variety of lab demonstrations.  The $5 registration fee includes lunch and is open to all 8th grade girls. Parents are encouraged to attend the day’s event with their daughters. For more information about registration, call 846-2030 or 846-3976.
