The Butte College Library is named after Frederick S. Montgomery, a founding member of the Butte College Board of Trustees. The Library has a collection of approximately 70,000 print books, 16,000 eBooks, and 18,000 print and electronic periodicals. Seventy-three computer workstations on the second floor provide access to 64 online databases with millions of full-text journal, magazine, and newspaper articles.
Our librarians teach LIS 11: Research Strategies, scheduled bibliographic instruction sessions, orientations, and workshops. All library instruction takes place in our computer lab (LB 206), which has 35 computers for hands-on experience.
The Library catalog is available online, and all the research databases are accessible to current students and staff from off-campus via the Internet. Reference assistance is available 24 hours a day though our virtual chat service.
Many of our workshops are available online, along with handouts and search guides. Many of our other services are also available online.
Renovations on the library building were completed in Summer of 2007.
The newly renovated, three-story Main Campus Library has an increase of about 17,000 square feet over the original space. The new library has a total of 323 seats including 132 study carrels, 73 computer workstations, 5 group study rooms, 42 lounge seats, and 32 table seats.
The 73 library computers have Internet access and word processing. Computers with assistive devices are also available. The Library is a wireless hotspot, so bring your laptop!
