Dramatic Arts

Chicago Butte Community College’s Drama program strives to offer as many opportunities for students to study and experience the theatre arts as possible. The program is dedicated to providing a high-quality education with safe and supportive center for artistic development. The diverse curriculum emphasized the discipline of teamwork and prepares students for academic and professional transfer.

Oedipus RexButte College Performing and Recording Arts Department establishes, enriches and supports a student-centered, community-based learning environment by offering collegiate-level courses, and engaging community events, designed to focus on music, and theatre as a dynamic medium of human expression.


Performance Opportunities:

Shedding some lightOne of the advantages for Drama students at Butte Community College is the many opportunities for a live audience. We believe live performance is an essential part of the undergraduate educational experience. Therefore, we provide the following performance situations:

  • Winter one-act plays
  • Full-length plays
  • Musicals
  • Shakespeare in the Schools
  • Summer Shakespeare in the Park (Chico Summer Theatre Festival)


We have two excellent performance venues:

  • New state-of-the-art theatre in the round
  • Outdoor amphitheatre
