2012-2013 SEASON OUTLOOK
The Roadrunners garnered another solid season in 2011-2012 despite a rather difficult 0-4 start to the year with each loss coming in the last minute. However, they regrouped and went onto finish 13-6 the rest of the way, 13-10 overall, and secure second place in the Golden Valley Conference with a 7-3 mark. The Roadrunners received strong play throughout the year from all-conference players Maazin Bulter 6’0’’, Eural Black 6’5”, and Josh Rolls-Tyson 6’8”, the lone returner for the Roadrunners from that talented trio.
This season’s non-conference schedule will see the Roadrunners participating in six strong tournaments starting with the Las Positas Tourney in early November and ending with the Allan Hancock Tourney in late December. The Roadrunners will then open Golden Valley Conference play at home against their rival Shasta College on Saturday, January 12th.
The 2012-2013 Roadrunners could prove to become a very solid team with their experience, skill sets, size, quickness, versatility, and youth. Leading the core of their returning players is 2012 All-Conference performer and co-captain, Josh Rolls-Tyson (6’8”), an athletic “big” with a deft shooting stroke, speed and quickness. Joining him will be another strong performer from last year’s team, off guard and co-captain Kenny Bell (6’2”). His game has vastly improved and his ability to lead the team will be invaluable to their success. Two other returners who have a solid chance to contribute are D’Nique Harris-Welch (6’4”), a cagy and versatile swing man, and co-captain Bobby Lombardi (6’0”), an excellent shooting off guard and stalwart defender.
A strong and talented 2011-2012 red-shirt class also joins the Roadrunners this season led by sharpshooter Chase Drews (6’1”). Joining him are two additional outstanding guard prospects in shooter Isaac Brown (5’11”), and clever point guard Chris Downs (5’10”). The last two members of this fine redshirt class are front line players David Glass (6’7”) and Sam Dixon (6’2”). Rounding out the roster for the Roadrunners is a talented group of players from the 2012 recruiting class vying for the opportunity to help the Roadrunners challenge for another GVC championship. These candidates include frontline players Justin Gavard (6’5”), and Michael Oloya (6’4”). At the swing position is versatile Kenny McMillian (6’3”) along with combo-guard, Anthony Taylor (6’3”), point guard Jamaal Davis (6’0”), and off guard Nathaniel Hurd.
