Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS)



Important information from DSPS!

• For the first two (2) weeks of the semester, August 25 – September 8, 2014, DSPS will see students on a WALK IN basis only! This is a first come first served priority. Students must come into the office to schedule a walk in appointment for that day. NO ADVANCED APPOINTMENTS will be made for the first two weeks.

• Office hours are Mon-Thurs 7:30am-3:30pm. You must come into the office to request an appointment. If an appointment is available, you can schedule that appointment and return at your appointed time. If no appointments are available, you must return on another day to schedule your appointment. No appointments are available at the Chico Center or Glenn Center until the third week of the semester.

 • Please arrive at least 5 – 10 mins before your appointment. This will allow you time to complete any required paperwork, or make sure your paperwork is completed before you arrive for your appointment time.

 • Be on time or early. The first two weeks of each semester are an extremely busy time in our office so we are asking you to help us assist you, by making sure you are on time or early for your appointment and that any needed paperwork, such as request forms, are completed before you arrive.

 • If you are late for your appointment, it will be given to the next person in line waiting and you will need to reschedule your appointment.

• Due to the high volume of students being seen in our office during this time, your phone calls may be routed to our voicemail. Please understand that your call is important to us and we will return all phone messages after 3pm each day, Monday - Thursday. Please leave us a phone message that includes your name, student ID, and a brief reason for your call and please be sure to include your phone number. Speak slowly and clearly so that when we return your call we can assist you efficiently.

 • The DSPS office will be closed for lunch from 12:00pm – 1:00pm for the first two weeks of school. We will return to regular office hours on Sept, 9th.Thank you for helping us help you.

ANNOUNCEMENT:  WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT AT DSPS?

Students, new and returning to DSPS; beginning this fall semester, all students will need to provide their class schedule along with their grade report.  If you transferred from another college and will be attending Butte Glenn Community College, please obtain a copy of your grade transcript from the college you last attended for your appointment with one of the Disabilities Specialists. 

 NEW REQUIREMENTS BEGINNING APRIL 28, 2014

Beginning Monday, April 28th all students, including students with a degree, will need to complete the Orientation requirement. If a student is unable or chooses not to attend Orientation, they will still have the option of registering for their classes during the Open Registration time period. Students that choose to register during the Open Registration time period will not be able to register as a Continuing Student until they have completed the Orientation requirement.  This requirement refers to all students, including students that have a disability. You must attend Orientation to be eligible for priority or continuing student registration status.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

The Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Department is the campus office responsible for determining and providing required academic accommodations for students with disabilities. The DSPS program provides support services, specialized instruction, and educational accommodations to students with disabilities so that they can participate as fully and benefit as equitably from the college experiences as their non-disabled peers.

Some of the services available to eligible students are listed below. Not every eligible student will qualify for every service. The accommodations that are provided to a student depend on an individual student's disability and how that disability affects their access to the education process.

Examples of services available through DSPS that are in addition to those regularly offered by the College include:

  • Testing Accommodations
  • Assessment for Learning Disabilities (limited and at the discretion of the director)
  • Specialized Counseling
  • Interpreter Services for hearing-impaired students
  • Mobility Assistance
  • Note-taking Services
  • Reader Services
  • Transcription Services
  • Registration Assistance
  • Specialized Instruction
  • Adaptive Technology
